The Power of Making Do
We didn’t have much growing up.
But what we had, we made work.
Everything we owned fit into milk crates that could be flipped, carried, and stacked at the next place. My mother saw what others threw away and turned it into structure, stability, and home. Those crates weren’t just furniture. They were a way of saying, “we’ll make it work!”
That mindset never left me.
Years later, when Jed and I started JASPER at the onset of a pandemic with no capital, no office, and four young kids learning from home, I thought back to those milk crates. We didn’t have what we thought we needed, but we had enough to begin. We took small jobs. We learned as we went. We figured things out one client at a time, and we made it work because making it work was what we knew how to do.
That season taught me something I still live by every day: resourcefulness matters more than available resources. Because the truth is, abundance is always available to those who move toward their vision. What you need will meet you on the path once you begin the journey. The key is to begin.
Resourcefulness means seeing possibility where others see limitation. It’s choosing creativity over complaint. It’s trusting that when you take the first step, the next one will appear.
You know that feeling, the one that whispers, “Not yet. I’m not ready...” You wait for the perfect conditions, the right tools, the unshakeable confidence. You keep telling yourself that someday, when the stars align, you’ll do it. You’ll finally take that leap.
But the truth is, that “perfect” moment doesn’t exist. If you keep waiting to feel fully ready, you’ll be waiting forever. The only way forward is to start before you feel ready, because action creates readiness, not the other way around.
What if making do, starting where you are with what you have is exactly where your power begins?
Go for it! Say yes to the meeting before you have the business cards. Take the first step toward the vision before you have the perfect plan. Every extraordinary story begins with a small beginning and the courage to not wait for perfect.
Abundance is ready to meet you when you take action. It’s revealed through motion.
And it’s often the difference between those who merely dream and those who build their dream. 💛
